I have found it difficult to find colognes and perfumes that are not made synthetically or wastefully. Harder still is finding those fragrances that come in simple and clean packaging. Last week, I shared my favorite colognes that come in recyclable and compostable packaging. Today, I have put together a list of my top picks that are available in either refillable or reused containers. I haven't tried them all yet, so let me know if you choose one and what you think about it! Like the others, all of these selections are natural and good for most sensitive skin types.
Hedera Helix by Illuminated Perfume | Los Angeles, California
Illuminated Perfume creates solid fragrances in romantic and refillable lockets and compacts. The containers are pieces you would want to keep forever, being cast in the U.S. from intricate vintage molds of the 1940s. Once the perfume runs out, you can recycle the tin tray inside and order a new one to go back into the compact, choosing from their wide variety of scents.
Notes: moss, jasmine, vanilla, peach leaf
Sierra Solid Gold by Illuminated Perfume | Los Angeles, California
This is an example of Illuminated Perfume's beautiful and refillable lockets, which let you carry your scent with you throughout the day to re-apply when you want. The radial filigree design in this pendant necklace is so neat and you can even choose the length of the chain! The Sierra scent intrigues me as it is supposed to be warm, sweet and spicy at the same time.
Notes: fir, vanilla, frankincense, myrrh
Tabac Sauvage by LVNEA | Montreal, Canada
Lvnea specializes in creating original and versatile unisex fragrances that are "pure, rich and intoxicating." Personally, I absolutely love the sweet, warm smell of the tobacco plant and would love to give this blend a try! This simple case is refillable upon request with any of their solid scents so you can try a few out without using extra packaging.
Notes: wild tobacco, bergamot, lavender, oakwood, vanilla & hay
Florida Water by Herbal Alchemy | Brooklyn, New York
Like Lvnea, Herbal Alchemy also creates colognes that are for both men and women. What makes this company especially unique is that they bottle their concoctions in vintage glass bottles that have been collected from the beaches of Brooklyn. Each order comes in a unique bottle that has been beautifully scratched up and texturized by waves and sand and looks like it came from an old apothecary. The owner, Julianne, is a certified aromatherapist, herbalist, and perfumer and creates all of her products by hand. She was inspired by the Latino community in her neighborhood to create her own version of Florida Water, which she says smells exactly like summer.
Notes: orange blossom, clove, lavender, cinnamon & lemon
