In my quest toward a more simple and sustainable life, one of my great challenges is finding products that I use everyday, made by businesses who care about the same thing. One particular industry that seems to have a hard time using sustainable practices and packaging is the cosmetics industry. Most cosmetic packaging ends up in landfills, since compact cases cannot usually be recycled (they are smaller than three inches in diameter and usually have mirrors attached). There are some creative ways to reuse cosmetic cases, but I don't believe that we should have to produce or consume any new products that will eventually end up littering our planet.
So with that, I sought to find a blush (I had recently run out) with recyclable or compostable packaging, produced by an Earth-friendly business. After much research and disappointment, I finally found this one by Foraged Fields that I absolutely love! What is remarkable is that the packaging is eco-friendly, the product is good for your skin, and both are simply beautiful.
The blush comes in a simple 4 ounce jar with an easy-to-open, metal lid. The label on the top of the lid is made out of 100% recycled paper and at the end of the blush's use this entire package can be recycled. The clear, glass jar also allows the radiant color of the product to shine. The blush is made entirely out of organic beet roots which make it a deep magenta hue. In addition to this portion being over 8 times the normal amount given, the vibrance and saturation of the product allow you to use very little to achieve the same result as commercial brands.
The best way to use it that I have found is to give the jar a little shake before opening it, and then dabbing my brush in the dust that has collected in the lid. I have never needed to use more than the amount shown in the lid above to achieve a rosy glow. I didn't even use half that amount to get this look.
The owner, April says that one jar has lasted her a year and I definitely believe it! I am so happy to have found an all-natural blush, in an eco-friendly package, from a forward thinking company!
